2024 River Friendly Farmer
River Friendly Farmer – Ted Martz Ted, is a farmer in Union Township in the Upper Wabash River Watershed. On his farm they produce corn and soybeans. Conservation cropping practices that Ted uses include waterways, buffer strips and Water and Sediment Control Basins. Ted has been no till all his life. He states “I care about the next generation. I think it is our duty to care for the land and hand it down better than we received it”. He also says that he uses less fuel and less labor, which in turn is less tillage and less soil loss. He also stated that “the women in his family have had a major contribution in making their farm successful”.
Ted was previously honored as the No-Till Farmer of the Year. Ted states that he tries to be positive in sharing with others how no-till has worked on his farm. I try to encourage others!
